What to Wear – Family Session

Family sessions are pretty popular this time of year so I thought it would be fun to post an idea for what to wear to a family photo session!  One thing that folks frequently assume about family photo sessions is that they all need to match or wear solids.  I promise, you do not need to all wear denim and white to look like a family!  I like to tell my families that if you wouldn’t go out in public wearing matching colors then you probably shouldn’t do it for a photo session.  The goal of the session is to capture your family as they look today – not as you wish they would look.  If your little boy has a favorite pair of shoes – let him wear them!  I promise, in 10 years when you look back on these photos you will be so happy to have that little glimpse into what life was like when he would only wear those shoes, even if they are lime green Crocs.:-)  And PLEASE, feel free to dress your kids in patterns or plaids!  Little girls look ADORABLE in a bright, colorful dress, and little guys can wear their favorite t-shirt or shorts and be 100% handsome.

This family grouping was actually inspired by the little girl’s dress – bright, colorful, happy.  I wish they made stuff like this for adults.:-)  Get creative with your outfits – stay in the same color family, but don’t feel like you need to match or dress alike to look like a happy foursome.

The little guy’s shirt and shorts are both from Children’s Place.  His shoes are from my favorite place – Tom’s.  Dad’s shirt is from Old Navy and his shorts and flip flops are from Target.  Mom’s top is from Target, but she splurged a little on her capris and shoes – True Religion for both.  The little girl’s dress is also from Children’s Place and her shoes are from Old Navy.
