Photo Tips: Summer Sun

With the summer sun blazing hot this time of year I thought it would be a great time to share a summer photo tip!  Keep in mind that the most important thing to remember when you’re enjoying the summer sun is just to capture the moment.  If your 2 year old is playing in the waves or building a sand castle just be sure to capture it.  Even if it’s with your iphone – the best camera is the one you’ve got with you!

If you’re in a situation where you have an opportunity to play with the light a little bit, try to turn your subject away from the sun.  This really goes against our natural instincts – we think “turn towards the sun so the light is on their face.”  When you turn your subject towards the sun the first thing they’ll do is squint their eyes and stop smiling.  To get open eyes and big smiles, turn them away from the sun so it’s actually hitting their back.  They’ll be able to smile without squinting, and you’ll be able to get a beautiful glow on the edge of their hair.  If you happen to be taking this picture around sunset, you’ll get a beautiful yellow glow to your image that will really add warmth to the moment.
