Sydney’s 1st Birthday Bash – Charlotte Family Photographer

A one-of-a-kind girl deserves a one-of-a-kind birthday bash!  Sydney’s pink and red baseball-themed birthday party was unique, fun, and 100% awesome.  The cakes were from Ketchie Creek Bakery in Mocksville, NC and WOW – beautiful and yummy!

These bottled waters were one of my favorite details – I love the “Birthday Facts” label on the back.:-)
The birthday girl was ready to party!  In her little red overalls and pink bow she totally worked the room flashing those big blue eyes at all of her guests.:-)
I love when babies look at each other and have conversations.  You can tell they’re totally communicating here …”Hello Lily, welcome to my party.” “Hey Syd, nice bow, love what you’ve done with the place.”
Sydney was all smiles pre-party playing with Mom & Grandma.  Apparently she’s a HUGE fan of this gold necklace and she’s been asking for it for months.:-)
And then we’re off… Like all 1 year-olds, Sydney was very busy.  She had to make it around to check all of the toys before her guests arrived and make sure everything was ready for play.
I’ve never seen so many blue-eyed babies in one place in all of my life.  This party was like a gathering for the best baby eyes in Charlotte.  These 2 little fellas are going to be heartbreakers.  :-)
This little guy has the best hair!  It’s like a permanent crew cut. And since the party was on St. Patrick’s Day he was sporting his “I’m a McCutie” onesie.

Seriously, the eyes on this little man are just beautiful!  After lots of play time and pizza Sydney got prepped for the big moment – her smash cake.
Look at the eyelashes on this little girl!  She’s precious even with frosting hanging off her nose.:-)
I realize these are cake pictures, but seriously, look at these eyelashes!  Beautiful!
The remains….  Sydney was one of the best smashers I’ve ever seen, and she ate just enough cake to give her a sugar-high for about and hour and then hit a great sugar-coma just in time for bed.:-)
Happy Birthday Sydney, and best wishes for an awesome year 2!

Big Sis, Lil’ Sis – Charlotte Family Photographer

I approach newborn sessions a little different than most photographers, and it’s so much fun!  I try to capture the new little one as they fit into their family.  It’s like a mini-mystery.  I try to look at the environment and determine what has changed since the little one came home.  For example – Mom and Dad used to sit on the couch and watch TV, now they sit in the bed and make funny faces at the baby.  Big Sis used to get all of the attention, now she wants to give lots of love.  The dog used to get prime seating and long naps, now he’s sniffing a crying baby.  8 pounds of joy will totally change the daily routine and the entire flow of a household and capturing that during the first couple of weeks is just priceless.  When Edeline e-mailed me about getting photos of baby girl #3 I knew it would be lots of fun.  Big Sis #1 is 4 and Big Sis #2 is 3, so Li’l Sis is going to fit so wonderfully into their family.

We started with the details.  The tiny, perfect, little baby details.  How precious is this little hand??

And y’all know I love baby feet – is there anything cuter than those little skinny toes?
Well hello Mackenzie!  There’s always one feature that stands out to me as I’m capturing the details, and with little Mackenzie it was her lips.  So beautiful!  Look at that little mouth!
After the detail shots we spent a little time with Dad.  How precious is that little foot in Daddy’s hand?
I’m a sucker for a finger grip.  It’s like newborns know what to do when the camera comes out.  Her little hand gripped around Dad’s finger – oh, I melt.  By the way – little Mackenzie was nothing short of fantastic during the entire shoot.  She was awake for most of the session and we must’ve changed her outfit 4-5 times.  Moved her from room to room, gave her a bath, and took her out in the bright sun!  She was super relaxed and just pure sugar.
Okay, everybody ready?  All together now ….Awwwwwwww.:-)
After kisses from Dad we spent a little time with Mom.  Have you ever seen a more content little girl?  This is my favorite.:-)
I’m sorry, I’m addicted to baby feet.
Little grip on Mom’s thumb….:-)
Now apparently Mackenzie had to dip pretty far into the gene pool to find this beautiful red hair and I love it.  I could be a bit biased towards red headed babies.
Mackenzie is one lucky Lil’ Sis.  Big sisters Brianna & Caylyn wanted to hug her, kiss her and give her LOTS of love.  They helped Dad bathe her and they were the best little helpers when Mom needed a bottle or a paci to calm her down.  I just love this little threesome and you can tell they are going to make an awesome team.
Caylyn had a precious little chat with Mackenzie.  She might’ve been sleeping here, but I’m sure she understood everything.  :-)
And then it was time to play dress up.  Both big sisters are very awesome dancers so little Mackenzie is getting an early start in her first tutu.:-) I think she rocked it.
This bean bag is also a family favorite that I totally loved.  Seriously – if we could all find a bean bag that we could just sink into like this and take a nap, wouldn’t you put one in every room?
After our family time Mackenzie’s God Mother stopped by for a little love.  Y’all might recognize God Mother Melissa because she’ll be getting married in October and I shot her engagement photos in November!
Welcome to the world little Mackenzie, I had a wonderful time meeting you and your super fun family!
