I think Forrest Gump said it best, “If I was goin’, I was runnin’.” Kids love to run. And they do it so effortlessly – no apparent loss of breath, no panting, wheezing or sweating. It seems as easy as walking. I can’t remember a time in my life when I was that excited to run, but I think it’s amazing that this group of kids got up early and came uptown last weekend to participate in the Kid’s Dash during the Susan G Komen Race for the Cure in Charlotte. There were about 10 mascots on hand to cheer them on, and everyone had a BLAST. Here are just a few of my favorite pics – seriously, check out the kid on the left there in camo – cheering because the race is about to start. If I had that much excitement for running I’d be a marathoner!![]()

The mascots did the dash before the kids just to show them how it was done. Poor Sir Purr – he took a nasty fall about 10 steps into the race. But what matters is that he gave it his best effort!

Smiles as they get close to the finish line – again – if I looked like that when I ran I’m sure I’d do it more often.![]()

Rufus missed the mascot race but showed up in time to cheer on the kiddos. Word on the street is that Sir Purr told him it was an 8:45 start time instead of 8:30. No confirmations yet on that rumor.

So for good measure – he lined up with the kids to show them how it’s done.

This little girl LOVED Sir Purr – especially his whiskers! But who can blame her, he is a pretty cool cat.

A crowd favorite as always for everyone – Sir Purr knows how to work a room.![]()
