Inspiration Monday – Winter

I think it’s the feeling of purity or freshness that makes me love winter.  While others might see it as a bunch of gray, cold, rainy days, to me it feels like everything’s getting a good cleaning just before it blooms in the spring.  Snow especially makes me feel that way.  It’s so perfect, so white.  How can something this beautiful fall from a sky so gray?  Another thing I love about winter is the act of getting warm.  I know that sounds a bit odd, but I love shivering outside (not for long) and then hopping in a car and turning on the heat or coming inside and putting on sweatpants and popping in a movie.  It feels like the cold encourages us to spend more time together, eat creamy soups and take naps.  Like while nature is cleaning things up outside, we’re supposed to relax and enjoy inside before the 72 degree days of spring come calling.  There’s just something about winter. Reflect, renew, relax and enjoy.   I love it.  I find it inspiring.

I think this quote by Edith Sitwell sums it up nicely for me:

“Winter is the time for comfort, for good food and warmth, for the touch of a friendly hand and for a talk beside the fire: it is the time for home.”

I hope you enjoy these last few weeks of winter and that we have many, many beautiful spring days in our future.
