Samwise & Rosie Gamgee, 2 large pumpkins, 2 mini pumpkins, 2 Cabbage Patch kids & some blackberry tarts. Now that’s a recipe for fun! Last year this time we were moving and unpacking boxes at our new house, so Halloween kind of flew past us. This year, we decided to really get into it by attending a Lord of the Rings themed party and having an in-house pumpkin carving competition. 
Here’s one of the pumpkins fresh from carving – I think this one is a clear winner. Hmm, wonder who carved it???

Our Lord of the Rings themed party was complete with a LOTR menu. We volunteered for hobbit tarts (blackberry tarts). The original recipe is here, but after about 5 calls to my Mother, I modified it slightly to make things a little easier.Instead of making the dough, I used canned biscuits in the muffin tin. And instead of cooking the tarts for 30 minutes, I cooked the blackberries with sugar for about 10 minutes in a saucepan and then added them to the tarts and cooked for about another 15 minutes in the oven. Here are the sugary blackberries on the stove…YUM!
And here’s everything cooking in the oven…I actually took this picture through the window on the oven door and there’s something about it that says yummy goodness to me.
Finished product – and seriously – if hobbits ate vanilla ice cream this would be AWESOME!!!
Now for the costumes – details really do matter when it comes to Hobbit attire. We decided to go as Samwise & Rosie Cotton-Gamgee from the end of the last movie where Sam comes home to Rosie and the 2 kiddos. Possibly a little over the top, but since we missed last Halloween we had some time to make up for.
I certainly did not rock this wig, but I tried! And I have major respect for Rosie after wearing this much hair and a corset all night! Happy Halloween everyone!! BOO!
